The HSG47 Cat1, Cat and Genny training course, can be run face to face at our Abercynon Training Facility in Navigation Park, CF45 4SN, Or at your site anywhere in the UK (or world).

All participants must wear full PPE for the practical sessions and as a minimum; safety boots, helmets, hi-vis vests

Course Background

Cat & Genny, HSG47 Avoiding Danger from Underground Services, is an in-depth training package covering what a safe system of work for avoiding underground services must take into account. The course has been designed to be interactive with theory and practical sessions enabling a thorough knowledge / understanding of Cat & Genny, HSG 47 and how cable avoidance tools can be employed in a Construction, Utility, or Substation environment.

Category 1: Locate Utility Services covers the minimum training and assessment required for those working to safely detect utility services using recognized and approved detection methods.

This course will benefit working professionals who need to understand utility drawings and be able to identify types of services and how to locate underground services.

The requirements of HSG47 Avoiding Danger from Underground Services including:

• Avoiding damage to underground services.
• Underground services colour coding system.
• Site / street furniture identification.
• Utility Plans & their limitations.
• Detection of underground services using cable avoidance tools.
• Detection of underground services using Genny mode with induction clamp and direct connection.
• Appreciation of underground mapping technology.
• Safe digging practices.
• Cat & Genny in a work environment.
• Safe Digging methods such as air lance and hydro excavation technologies.

The HSG47 (Cat & Genny) course is for all individuals who require an understanding and knowledge of HSG47 and the safe use of a Cat and Genny and to avoid danger from underground services.
