Information

The Award in Education and Training (AET) qualification can be delivered in a face-to-face setting or remotely by Zoom.

We run this as an online learning experience via Zoom over three months.

Alternatively, we run this as an intensive face-to-face classroom course with a group of learners. This can be run at your site or at our facilities in Abercynon.

Qualification Objective

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) provides an introduction to teaching. It develops skills, knowledge, and understanding of how to prepare, plan, deliver and evaluate teaching and learning sessions. It can be delivered in a range of teaching and learning contexts. Whilst the qualification may be taken by someone not currently in a teaching role there is a minimum requirement to deliver a microteaching session. The qualification can meet the needs of trainee teachers such as:

  • those not currently teaching or training – achievement of the qualification only requires microteaching
    (unless units from the Learning and Development suite of qualifications are selected);
  • those currently teaching and training (including those who have just begun teaching and training) – although the qualification only requires microteaching (unless units from the Learning and Development suite of qualifications are selected), opportunities may be made available to observe and provide feedback on a trainee teacher's practice;
  • those currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching.
  • Units from the Learning and Development suite of qualifications may be achieved within this qualification.
  • These units require practice to be assessed.
  • The Level 3 Award in Education and Training will prepare learners for employment.

Benefits to Learners

This qualification demonstrates competence and provides recognition of knowledge and understanding of the assessment of occupational competence in a work environment or vocational skills, knowledge, and understanding in a training provider, FE college or an organization’s in-house training department in a variety of sectors. This qualification could help progression into an assessment role.

Learner Entry Requirements

They should record their development needs and, where applicable, agree on an action plan to address them. If trainee teachers join the qualification program having already undertaken an initial assessment of their English, Mathematics, and ICT skills, their record of development needs and any previous actions taken to address them should be reviewed and updated as required.

Learners should be aged 19 years and over to take this qualification.
